SILK SHAWLS vs. PASHMINA SHAWLS
If you are considering purchasing a
pashmina shawl, please think about my hand-painted silk shawls. There is a difference between these two popular styles of shawls.
There are two kinds of pashmina shawls : 1) 100% wool; and 2) a wool and silk blend. The term pashmina refers to the superior type of wool used in both shawls.
Because of this fine pashmina wool,
these shawls are a bit heavier and more suited to cooler weather. The pashmina wool is usually dyed, and then different colors of this yarn are woven into shawls. Often, these shawls are block printed.
My silk shawls are created a little differently.
I start with a plain white piece of silk. I then paint each shawl by hand, much as you would paint with water colors. This allows for more colors and nuances than you would achieve with just weaving or block printing.
A silk shawl is also more versatile than a pashmina shawl.
Since silk is warm in winter, cool in summer; a silk shawl can be worn 12 months a year, whereas a pashmina shawl is often best suited to the cooler months.
